Dual Credit

WHAT IS DUAL CREDIT?

  • A dual credit class offers students the chance to earn both high school credit AND college credit hours for 1 class.
  • School districts match approved college courses to a high school course that closely aligns with the college course curriculum. This allows the high school to award credit for a high school course when the student passes the college course.
  • Dual credit courses are taught by college professors from the high school’s partner college.
  • High school students that take dual credit classes are also college students and therefore are required to complete the partner college’s application for admission and enrollment process. They must also meet the college’s enrollment requirements prior to enrolling in a dual credit course.
  • The student is responsible for verifying transferability of course credit to the college/university of choice.

BENEFITS OF DUAL CREDIT

  • Taking a dual credit class in high school will save a student both time and money.
  • Students can work on core college credit hours before graduating high school so there are fewer classes that need to be completed when a student begins college coursework.
  • Dual Credit classes offered through TVAH are FREE during the fall and spring school semesters!
  • This means free college credit hours that students won’t have to pay for later at a university!
